Activities Include:

  • A Red Cross Swim Instruction Program which includes stroke refinement as well as water safety classes utilizing a Red Cross curriculum, teaching safe behavior, in, on, and around water; Longfellow's Whale Tales.
  • Windsurfing Instruction which takes place at Jetties Beach. Younger campers have an individual instructor remain on the board with the child, feet from the shore line with the objective of building self confidence.
  • Eurythmics - Singing and dancing instruction led by a trained Eurythmics instructor.
  • Tennis Instruction takes place at the Jetties Beach tennis courts. Lessons are instructed by Murray Camp Staff as well as the Jetties Courts recreational staff. Numerous imaginative games and drills are utilized to instruct children of all levels.
  • Clay class allows children to create their works of art from molding clay to their finished masterpieces. Our philosophy is geared at children flourishing within the artistic process.
  • Arts and Crafts encompasses many guest island artists teaching classes specializing in their medium. In addition, a creative environment accompanied by a wide range of art supplies engages children to work on group and individual projects.
  • Yoga classes are tailored to meet the development ages of all campers. Beginning with animal poses for our young campers to developing the ability to pose, relax and meditate for our older campers, a positive yoga foundation we believe, assists children in their healthy development.
  • Environmental Awareness activities include outings to various island habitats with the objective of research and development of a respect and appreciation for nature. In addition, scheduled visits from the Island's environmental officer and related town departments keep our curriculum flourishing.
  • Sailing Instruction is overseen by Coast Guard licensed Captain James Genther on the Friendship Sloop Endeavor. The Endeavor is a Coast Guard certified vessel. The vessel sails no more than three miles from shore at any point in the sailing instruction program.
  • Biking trips to various island destinations are scheduled weekly, for campers ages 8 to 13. Trips of various lengths, ranging from 30 minutes of practicing the skill to half day excursions, are designed to meet each child's ability.
  • Sports include an array of games, including soccer, kickball, basketball, wiffle ball, volleyball and a weekly ice skating outing (skates are provided by Murray Camp, at the rink).
  • Open microphone improvization sessions bring out the entertainer in all of the children. Stories, skits and jokes told by the children, individually and in small groups, remain a big hit at camp!
On rainy days the children are still out and about. Field trips to museums, the police station, the fire department and the airport tower are only a few of our rainy day directions. We also have rainy day visitors. Puppet makers, clay sculptors, magicians and Indian storytellers are among our bleak weather day friends.
